THE new year began with a triathlon for residents of Chitterne inspired by the sporting success of London 2012.
Villagers got together in costumes at midday on New Year’s Day to swim The Cut, a river in the village, cycle around the sports field and then run to The Kings Head pub.
Overall champion was Emma Ayling, and Nigel Dean won best costume.
The event helped raise money for Louie’s S.M.I.L.E.S. which was set up by the parents of ten-year-old Louie Coldwell from Chitterne who died in February last year from a rare form of cancer.
The charity raises money to buy toys for children undergoing treatment at Salisbury District Hospital.
