AN Alderholt band leader is providing an evening of live music in aid of Fordingbridge Museum.

The Chris Walker Swingtet will appear at St Mary’s Hall on January 17, playing well known tunes from the swing era of the 1930s and 40s.

Mr Walker said: “Everywhere you look there is some reminder of the area's historical heritage so I was delighted when I suggested to the museum that my band could be part of their fundraising effort and they took me up on it.”

The band was formed in 1987 and plays regularly on cruise ships and at jazz festivals, as well as local and national venues.

Philippa Duckworth from the museum said: “The museum is a major attraction for both tourists and locals but is run by volunteers and has free entry so it relies on fundraising.

“Many locals will know the excellent entertainment that the Chris Walker Swingtet always provides so we are anticipating that it will be a popular evening.”

Tickets are £10 on the door or from the Fordingbridge Bookshop. The event starts at 7.30pm and includes refreshments. The audience can bring their own wine or beer.
