THE Wiltshire Police and Crime Panel have unanimously agreed the appointment of Patrick Geenty as the new chief constable of Wiltshire Police.
The panel met today to discuss the Police and Crime Commissioner’s preferred candidate, and have backed the decision made by Angus Macpherson.
Mr Macpherson said: “I'm very pleased the Police and Crime Panel support my choice of Chief Constable.”
Mr Geenty, who has been the temporary chief constable since March, appeared before the panel and responded to detailed questions from members.
The panel looked into areas such as Mr Geenty’s professional competence and personal independence and were satisfied that the selection process leading to his appointment as preferred candidate had been based on the principles of merit, openness and honesty.
The confirmation hearing took place at Devizes Corn Exchange The panel will meet again on February 6 to discuss the commissioner’s forthcoming Police and Crime Plan.
