A NURSE from Salisbury has volunteered her time and expertise to help at a hospital in Tanzania.

Lesley Howe, who has worked in nursing for more than 30 years, set off to help in a hospital in Arusha in September last year.

She was assigned to a medical project, mainly working in a surgical ward but also observing in an eye clinic.

“It’s a valuable experience,” said Ms Howe, 52, who has worked at Salisbury District Hospital for the last 11 years. “It’s really good for health professionals to see how healthcare works in another country and to exchange ideas.

“I’ve gained quite a bit of knowledge and I’d like to think I’ve given some back in a small way.”
