Update: Snow causes travel chaos
9:38am Friday 18th January 2013 in News
Police have closed the A303. Picture by Simon Longworth.
The heavy snowfall is causing problems for motorists today.
Police have reported several accidents but none have been too serious.
They are trying to get a snowplough to the A303, where the road is closed between Beacon Hill and Countess Roundabout and people have got stuck in the snow. A lorry is stuck by Lidl in Amesbury, blocking the road.
Police are advising people not to travel if possible. If you need to, make sure you have warm, waterproof clothing, a sleeping bag, torch and food and water in case you get stuck.
Value Cars are not currently running any taxis due to the weather, but will try to resume normal service as soon as possible.
South West Trains are running a revised route today, with no service from Salisbury to Bristol and less services from Salisbury to London.
All Wiltshire Council Park & Ride sites will be closed for the rest of the day.
The council has salted the primary and extended routes and also has 40 farmers across the county ploughing as well.
