A WEBSITE set up for people in Wiltshire to post pictures of themselves naked in the snow has raised more than £600 for charity in less than 24 hours.
Leanne Myers, a nurse from Durrington, came up with the idea after a hard day at work at Salisbury’s Prime Care Agency on Friday, when nurses battled to get to those they support despite the weather conditions.
She posted a picture of herself and neighbour Danielle Smith posing with guitars on a Facebook page called ‘Wiltshire “Lets get naked in the snow”’ and watched as the idea snowballed.
More than 5,500 have now joined the group, with hundreds of people of all ages posting pictures, and Mrs Myers decided on Monday to use the craze to raise money for a cause close to her heart.
She set up a Justgiving page for people to donate money to Salisbury District Hospital’s Stars Appeal Little Lives Fund.
Her daughter Ellie, 12, was a patient at the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit for five weeks when she was born six-and-a-half weeks prematurely with a heart condition. Donations have been made by people as far afield as Frankfurt and Australia and the current total stands at £690.
“I am absolutely over the moon, I can’t believe it,” said Mrs Myers. “It’s brilliant and I’ve got great people helping me.”
Mrs Myers is looking for help with printing a calendar for next year featuring as many of the pictures as possible, as well as anyone who can help with producing wrist bands that can be sold for charity.
