AN important life lesson is on the curriculum for New Forest youngsters – how to stay safe on the streets.
Learning how to get out of a sticky situation safely is just one aspect of a new Street Safe programme in local schools and colleges.
Young men and women are learning how to carry out their own preventative risk assessments, and basic crisis intervention skills to use if they are faced with a potentially dangerous situation, such as a mugging or assault.
The Street Safe lessons also teach how to make the right choices about the people they mix with and places they visit. The Street Safe programme is also offered to young offenders and their parents and guardians.
