THE Stroke Association has teamed up with Wiltshire Council and NHS Wiltshire to provide stroke survivors in the Salisbury area with a monthly drop-in centre.
The drop in will take place at Salisbury Library, giving stroke survivors, their families and carers the opportunity to pop by without an appointment to get information, advice and support. A similar drop in service already runs in Amesbury.
It is estimated that there are around 9,000 people living with the effects of stroke in Wiltshire and more than half of stroke survivors are left dependent on others for everyday activities such as making a cup of tea or shopping for food.
Maggie Rae, corporate director at Wiltshire Council, said: “Thanks to great improvements in emergency and rehabilitation facilities, more people than ever before are surviving stroke. But many are left with long term disabilities and face enormous challenges in rebuilding their lives.
“This new drop in facility will offer an informal setting for people affected by stroke to seek support and help them return to a life after stroke.
“It will offer practical solutions such as arranging for adaptations to the house, making contact with voluntary support groups or assisting stroke survivors to get back to work.”

• Salisbury Library - the second Tuesday of each month – 10am to 11.30am
• Amesbury Community and Visitors Centre – the first Monday of each month – 10.30am to noon
