THE new Police and Crime Commissioner for Dorset Martyn Underhill says he will monitor concern over street lighting.

Changes to night-time street lighting began in Corfe Mullen, West Moors, Ferndown and West Parley in early December. The county council says lights will only be turned off where there are no significant concerns over road safety and crime.

Mr Underhill said: “While I have received some letters from the public I have not received sufficient for me to intervene.

“I also have to take into account the fact that the council has agreed to turn the lights back on if the police request it.”

Mr Underhill is monitoring the situation over three months “to establish whether the safety of Dorset residents is affected”.
