A NURSERY proposed on the site of a secondary school site is hoping to win over planning committee members.

Wiltshire Council submitted plans for a modular building to cater for 36 children aged two to five on a little-used grassed area at Avon Valley College in Durrington last year.

But people living near the school were worried about the access to the site off the already busy The Ham, and the council’s southern area planning committee refused to grant permission in October.

The application has now been resubmitted with additional supporting information about the provisions for parking and dropping-off points.

The reworked proposal has the support of Durrington Town Council, which said the pre-school would be of value to the town, and enhancing the link path between The Ham and Milston View would be of huge benefit to the community.

The council has received four letters of objection with people raising concerns that even with a travel plan and parking arrangements they cannot guarantee that parents won’t use The Ham.

They maintain that and better alternative locations for the nursery are available.

The application will go before Wiltshire Council’s southern area planning committee at Salisbury City Hall at 6pm today.
