A LOLLIPOP patrol has been put into place outside a school in Durrington after two pupils wrote to their local councillor appealing for help in crossing the road.

Archie Akrill and Naomi Hibbs, who go to All Saints Junior School, wrote to the chairman of the parish council and Wiltshire councillor Graham Wright to say the zebra crossing near the school wasn’t enough to help them get to lessons safely.

Archie said: “Drivers just aren’t aware. They are just in too much of a hurry to stop for us.” Wiltshire Council was contacted and a survey was carried out, with the result that the council is funding a crossing patrol.

Cllr Wright said: “It’s wonderful when youngsters contact me and ask for help, and that makes the role of a Wiltshire Councillor so very rewarding.”
