AN Irish wolfhound belonging to rock star Sting and his wife Trudie Styler was one of the local winners at this year’s Crufts.

The prize-winning pooch, called Cailin Siobhan at Dukesarum, won first prize in the Post Graduate class at the annual event held at Birmingham NEC over the weekend.

The couple, who live in Wilsfordcum- Lake, also saw Dukesarum Aoife pick up fourth place in Reserve Special Puppy and Dukesarum Tegan achieve Very Highly Commended fifth place in the Special Puppy section.

And there were wagging tails all round after scores of other dogs from the Salisbury area scooped prizes.

Katherine Edge, from Fovant, is celebrating double success after her Sussex spaniels Pebbles and Tansy won firsts in the Veteran and Special Working Gundog categories.

And Barry and Sue Coulson, from Durrington, saw their two Welsh corgis, Woodhenge Star Maiden and Woodhenge Star Legacy, win first place in both Special Junior categories.

Lancashire heeler Rizla, owned by Sophie Sheldon from Porton, came first in the Post Graduate category and Petra Thomas, from Durrington, saw her rottweiler Peggie Sue scoop first place in Yearling.

Mrs Thomas, who bred Peggie Sue, said: “We are over the moon with how well she is doing in the show ring, especially as we bred her ourselves.

Peggie Sue loves showing and obedience and is great with our grandchildren.

We just love her to bits and are so proud.”

Jean Collins-Pitman, from Salisbury, has been to Crufts with her gordon setters for the last 30 years and this year saw Dallas win first place in the Field Trial category, Barclay come third in Special Puppy and Arnie achieve reserve fourth in Veteran.

Pepper the golden retriever, owned by Kim Ellis from Durrington, came first in Special Working Gundog and Pepper’s daughter, Kiwi, won second in the Post Graduate section.
