Man arrested in hunt for Volvo driver in Jade crash
1:02pm Friday 22nd March 2013 in News
Police have arrested a man in the hunt for a driver who failed to stop after teenager Jade Clark was killed on the A31.
Officers investigating the fatal collision have arrested a man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop following a collision.
Officers also seized a vehicle believed to have been involved.
Sixteen-year-old Jade Clark was struck by a Volvo XC90 as she rode her moped along the A31 near Ashley Heath at 8.23pm on Sunday February 24.
A 58-year-old Kent man was arrested at an address in the Kent area yesterday morning. This man is currently helping police with their enquiries.
Inspector Matt Butler, of the Dorset Police Traffic Unit, said: “I can confirm that a man is in custody and is being questioned by investigators.
“His vehicle, a Volvo XC90, has been seized and this will now be forensically examined by specialists.
“I would like to thank the local community for their assistance in this investigation so far.
“I would, however, continue to urge anyone who believes they have information about this collision – and has yet to speak with police – to come forward.”
In a joint investigation between the Force’s Major Crime Investigation Team and the Traffic Unit, officers had launched an extensive search for a Volvo XC90 registered between 2003 and 2007.
More than 950 vehicles were eliminated by investigators before this development.
