SALISBURY has been named the UK’s second least affordable city to live in.
According to this year’s Lloyds TSB Affordable Cities Review, the average property price is 8.6 times the average gross annual salary.
Only in Oxford is property less affordable.
Salisbury MP John Glen says he is “not really surprised” by the findings.
“One of the challenges we face is to continue improving the salaries and range of jobs in the city,” he said.
“The projects I’m currently working on, including the Porton Science Park, will increase job prospects, and open up more chances for people to work in different sectors.
“It doesn’t really surprise me that Salisbury’s been named the second least affordable city to live, because it reflects the desirability of the area.
“Demand is high to live in Salisbury because it’s a beautiful city, with excellent schools, a great hospital and a lot of culture. It’s the place to be.”
Britain’s 12 least affordable cities are all in the south of England. In Oxford the average property price is 9.66 times gross average earnings in the area.
Bath and Truro were jointly named the third least affordable places to live.
