A NEW app has been designed for Salisbury showcasing the top ten reasons to visit the city.

The Visit Salisbury App, which is being launched by VisitWiltshire and is free to download, features an interactive guide to the city, Stonehenge and surrounding areas. With interactive mapping, special offers and games, there is also information on prices, opening times, directions and contact details for each business on the app.

VisitWiltshire chief executive David Andrews said: “We’re really excited about this. “It’s the first time Salisbury’s ever had a free tourism app of this kind, and the fact we’re able to support it with a significant marketing campaign is fantastic for us and for all our 170 Salisbury tourism member businesses. “We’ll be updating the app regularly so we’re still able to include businesses in this.”

The app sets out the top ten reasons to visit Salisbury which include it being a great city for history, heritage and romance, festivals, arts and culture, and great days out.

It aims to provide all the information people will need when planning and enjoying their visit to Salisbury and south Wiltshire.

Salisbury is one of seven English cities currently being featured in a nationwide marketing campaign backed by VisitEngland. The other six are Bath, Oxford, London, York, Stratford and Chester. As part of the campaign, the city’s attractions have appeared in recent pages in the Guardian and Mail on Sunday in addition to a range of social media, online marketing and Classic FM.

The app is now available from the Apple and Google Play stores. For more details visit visitwiltshire.co.uk
