A CHARITY event that will see hundreds of people push a trolley around the UK to raise funds and awareness for foodbanks started in Salisbury on Monday.

Organised by The Trussell Trust, the event started outside the charity’s High Street shop.

And Trussell Trust volunteers were helped on their way by members of the fire brigade as they pushed Phil the trolley, a specially modified trolley, and his friends around the city centre and Cathedral Close.

The trolleys, which are visited local businesses along the way, are making their way to 44 towns and cities all over the UK.

In addition to raising funds and awareness, the Foodbank Trolley Push aims to help the charity launch more foodbanks nationwide. The Trussell Trust has launched more than 300 foodbanks in the UK, with Salisbury being the first one of the network. It provides three days of nutritionally balanced emergency food to people in crisis.

*An Easter trolley hunt organised by the charity saw participants searching for hidden trolley posters displayed in locations around Salisbury, with a chocolate prize for every completed hunt.
