EASTER Monday saw 84 players at Rushmore Golf Club in Tollard Royal take part in in a fun competition to celebrate the 90th Birthday of club member Baroness Sharples.

“Her birthday was in February, but the House of Lords was in session then so we waited until the Easter break before we celebrated,” said general manager Declan Healy.

“She is a truly remarkable lady. Not only does she still sit in the House of Lords three days a week but she also regularly plays 18 holes.

“The turnout from the members on a bitterly cold day highlights the respect she carries around the club.”

Members played a Texas Scramble and all the players started together in a shotgun start, so everyone could then enjoy lunch in the clubhouse.

Fittingly there were 90 people for the lunch, and Baroness Sharples was presented with flowers by Gill Cronin, the ladies’ captain, and was given an honorary membership to the club by the owner, William Gronow Davis.

Baroness Sharples played 18 holes in the freezing cold along with her fellow members, and said she was overwhelmed by the well wishes of everyone associated with the club.
