FOUR EU member states are still not fully compliant with the welfare of the laying hens directive, despite the ban coming into force at the beginning of 2012.
At a poultry meeting in Brussels last month a European Commission official confirmed there were ongoing legal proceedings with four countries who are still producing eggs illegally.
The commission was unable to name the member states, however they are thought to be Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Poland.
