THREE Salisbury Plain boxers were members of the army boxing team that beat the Royal Navy to win the Combined Services Championship held at HMS Nelson.

The result was a win by seven bouts to two, with six walkovers as the navy were unable to fill all the weight categories.

Lance Corporal Trev Littler, from 26 Engineer Regiment at Perham Down, took on his Royal Marine opponent in the middleweight contest, overpowering him with a crushing second round performance that saw him take the bout on a unanimous points decision.

Sapper Ashley Whitfield, also 26 Regt RE, and Private Ashley Williams from 2 Royal Welsh, were both forced to sit out the evening as they were unopposed in their weight. Army coach, Staff Sergeant Martin Anthony, said: “We have worked hard for this trophy and we haven’t taken anything for granted.

Winning was not a given.”
