A BUS engineer who was flown to hospital after a motorbike accident has donated a £200 prize for weird woollens to the air ambulance.

Andy Stapleton, from Verwood, suffered fractures to his arm and shoulder in the accident in 2008 and was airlifted to Dorchester by the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

He was so thankful to the paramedic team he decided to donate the £200 he won in a contest to design and wear the weirdest woolly jumper to work at Wilts & Dorset’s Poole depot. The donation was doubled by area engineering manager Kenny McDonald.

The pair visited the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance team at Henstridge Airfield where they presented the £400 cheque and were given a tour of the facilities by fundraising co-ordinator Annette Plaistow-Trapaud.

They also met pilot Phil Merritt and paramedics Leonie German and Mark Williams.

Andy said: “I don’t remember a lot about the flight except that I could relax knowing that I was in very safe, expert hands.”
