A RINGWOOD teaching assistant has been named TA of the Year at a regional awards ceremony.

Claire Waine of Ringwood School is the Pearson Teaching Assistant of the Year 2013 for London and the South East.

The Pearson Teaching Awards are an annual celebration of exceptional teachers and teaching, founded in 1999 by Lord Puttnam to recognise the life-changing impact of an inspirational teacher on the lives of the young people they teach.

Headteacher Christine Edwards said: “Claire joined Ringwood School in September 2006 and what an impact she has made.

“We all quickly recognised her many talents, and knew that she would be able to contribute something very special to the school.

“Once it became known Claire was going to be nominated for a teaching award staff, students and parents have all wanted to say a special thank you.

“That says a great deal about the impact she has had on the lives of so many.”

The UK final of the Teaching Awards is on October 20, filmed in London and broadcast by the BBC.
