VERWOOD’S gleaming new gym is set to open tomorrow, following the closure of the old leisure centre.

The facilities at the Hub in Brock Way are bang up to date, and even feature free WiFi so users can surf as they exercise.

The new facility, created after East Dorset District Council sold off the old site to Morrisons for the supermarket to expand, will hold a special open day on Saturday to introduce people to the equipment.

People can join as members for £27 a month, or pay £15 for an induction and £7.25 per session under a “pay and play” scheme.

There are cheaper deals for couples, students, senior citizens and those who are referred by their GP.

The gym is heralded as: “Unique in concept, Lifestyle provides the leisure, entertainment, conference and social facilities for the community.

“Whether you want to improve your fitness, enjoy high quality entertainment or need a place to meet for professional, social or business purposes, Lifestyle caters for you.”

The gym is operated by non-profit-making charity Verwood Arts and Leisure Amenities (VALA), which operates three sites at the Hub, Potterne Park, including the 3G Astroturf Arena, and the Emmanuel Sports Hall.

People who have had a sneak preview of the gym via photos on Facebook have been resoundingly positive.

Susie Burnett said: “That looks AMAZING! Cannot wait!”

And Geoff Cane-Richardson said it was “Awesome”.

Lin Pagden described the facilities as “so fab n trendy”.

The facilities will be open from 7am until 10pm from Monday to Thursday, 7am until 9pm on Fridays and from 8.30am until 6.30pm at weekends.

New users have to book an induction and get a “digital wellness key”, and create a wellness account at mywellness.com.
