Tens of thousands raised at the Ellingham Show
AN estimated 16,000 people streamed into Ellingham Show at the weekend, raising about £50,000 for local charities.
Heavy horses and main ring secretary Mandy Peters says it was a “fantastic” day, which attracted a swathe of compliments: “All of us who organise the show are volunteers – we all take ten days off work and it’s great fun, but a lot of work.
“The comments from people who enjoyed the show make it all worthwhile.”
The show, which has been running for 60 years, featured terrier racing for the first time this year, which proved immensely popular.
Dressage demos from local riders Jodie Lister and Angela Russell proved a real draw and a New Forest pony pageant went down a storm.
Now the clean-up of the site has been completed, volunteers are calculating just how much can be handed out to local causes.
Ms Peters said: “We get so much help from so many different people, for instance the scout groups set up tables and businesses lend us equipment – we just couldn’t do it without them.”
