Three generations wed on the same date
WHEN Sophie Pitman got engaged she didn’t have any hesitation in setting a wedding date.
Her mother and grandmother had both tied the knot on August 10 and Sophie and her fiancé Tom were keen to carry on the family tradition.
Sophie’s grandmother, Janet Wyatt married her husband David on August 10, 1968 at St Francis Church in Salisbury.
The couple’s daughter Carmen tied the knot with Garry Pitman 23 years later in 1991 at St Michael’s Church, Bemerton Heath, and on Saturday Sophie wed her fiancé Tom Stokes at St Michael and All Angels Church in Winterbourne Earls.
With all three couples sharing the same wedding anniversary, there is no excuse for forgetting the big day.
“We thought it would be romantic for all three generations to marry on the same day,” said Mrs Pitman.
“Sometimes we’ve had joint wedding anniversary celebrations especially when my parents are celebrating the big ones.
“Sophie was going to wait until 2014 and then all of our wedding anniversaries would be 23 years apart but she decided she didn’t want to wait any longer to marry Tom and they brought it forward to August 10 this year.
“I think it’s a lovely family tradition and their wedding was a really beautiful day.”
