Getting around in new minibus
A NEW Community Transport minibus has been bought for residents and voluntary organisations in Fordingbridge and surrounding areas.
The 14-seat, wheelchair accessible minibus has been funded by a grant from New Forest District Council and is available to hire by voluntary or not for profit organisations, social groups, lunch clubs and others who are current members of Community First New Forest. Membership is free.
One of the first organisations to benefit from the new bus was the local branch of the Normandy Veterans’ Association.
They had been invited to attend a presentation and garden party at Buckingham Palace.
Due to their age and health, most of their members would have found it extremely difficult to attend this event without organised transport.
Community First New Forest provided the minibus and volunteer drivers, one of whom helpfully had local knowledge as he had previously been a London lorry driver before retiring.
Graham Hartless, transport manager for Community First New Forest, said: ‘I’m glad we were able to supply the transport for this most deserved invitation.
“We have previously taken this group to Bovington Tank Museum as well as to visit The Watercress Line. We hope we can help them again in the future.”
The organisation is looking for more voluntary drivers for trips such as this, particularly from the Fordingbridge area.
If you have some free time and would like to volunteer, MiDAS training will be provided.
