Sunday Funday draws the crowds in Durrington
FAMILIES flocked to Durrington at the weekend for another successful Sunday Funday.
Now in its fourth year, the event had something for all ages, with bouncy castles and face-painting, pony rides and football, a raffle, stalls and a car boot sale. There were performances from Colton Dancing Academy and Sarum Stars cheerleaders, and Disco Dion entertained the children throughout the afternoon.
The event has raised about £1,950 so far and more donations are expected. The organisers plan to split the money between different charities, mainly Cystic Fibrosis Trust as local girl Hannah Dourley has the condition. They also want to pay for a fun day out for Hannah and her family at Paultons Park and donate smaller amounts to the Cheerful Cuppa group, the short mat bowls club, Durrington Junior and Infant schools, the Scout group and Sarum Stars, who have supported the event since it started.
Organiser Emma Spencer said: “It was brilliant. It was quiet to start with and then it got pretty busy and eventually the sun came out to play. There were lots of smiley faces and happy people. “I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported it.”
The event has grown massively since it started, with about 1,000 people believed to have attended on Sunday, and Mrs Spencer is keen to start planning next year’s event.
