WHY give away your mountain of value?

One of the steps in my ‘10 Step Marketing Methodology’ is to get my clients to give away their market knowledge for free.

This is an interesting point that I raise with my clients, some of whom get it immediately and start blogging, or get me to blog on their behalf, while others resist and just don’t get why they should give away their knowledge.

So, to help make matters simple, here is how giving away your mountain of value works, and there are pretty much four groups of people who will read your blogs: Firstly – the freebie lovers. These lovely chaps will enjoy reading your blogs but never have, and never will, pay for your services. They were never prospective clients so you lose nothing by advising them.

Secondly – the ‘take a piece of information and implement it themselves’ group. This is the largest group of people, and they will try to implement what you tell them themselves.

Sometimes they will succeed, but more often than not they cannot implement it all, and will eventually seek your help as they value your expertise.

Thirdly – your competitors.

Ok, did you know you don’t actually have any competitors as there is no one out there who is exactly the same as you?

But you may be scared to share your content for fear that they will copy you.

If this were true there wouldn’t be so many successful marketing books, recipe books, and successful entrepreneurs out there sharing their knowledge.

Is Delia’s sponge cake the same as Mary Berry’s? I sincerely doubt it, and both recipes are on the internet for the world to see.

And remember, if you share your information on the internet first, it proves it came from you. You have put your intellectual property in writing, for the world to see.

Lastly – you have the group who understand that hiring an expert, and thus allowing them to get on with their day job, is the best way forward for them and their businesses.

They understand getting someone to do it for them works more quickly and saves them money in the long run.

And they will know you are an expert as you have already proved it by sharing your knowledge.

Your customers come to you pre-sold.

So don’t be afraid to share your mountain of value.

Sharing your knowledge attracts more business and sets you up as an expert.

I would say that’s a ‘win’, wouldn’t you?
