Louise walks for brother and friend
A SALISBURY woman has overcome heartache and hardship to complete a charity walk in memory of her brother and best friend.
Louise Morris’s older brother Howard died of pancreatic cancer in December 2010 aged 37 and one of her closest friends, Sarah Hancock, died of cervical cancer in September last year, age 35.
She decided to do something to raise money in their memory and that of other friends and family lost to the disease, but the challenge was tougher for her than most as she suffers from severe back pain and spasms.
Together with friend Claire Partridge, Mrs Morris spent two days walking from Bishopton in Bristol to Harnham. The pair finished their trek at Harnham Memorial Hall last Tuesday where they were greeted by a welcome back party and fundraising evening held by Mrs Morris’ local Slimming World group.
She joined the group in October last year and said the new friends she has made there have been a great support during a difficult time.
The fundraising efforts have raised £700 so far and donations are still coming in, with the money to be split between Pancreatic Cancer UK and Cancer Research UK.
Mrs Morris said: “Howard and Sarah may be gone, but they will never be forgotten. Knowing how hard they both fought their battles gives me strength every day, and I want to help beat cancer.”
