A CHARITY shop in Salisbury is celebrating 15 years of fundraising in aid of the UK’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

The team at the Barnardo’s shop marked the milestone by cutting a specially-decorated cake on Thursday. Sandra Tildesley manages the Catherine Street store and is supported by two sales assistants and more than 30 volunteers aged from 14 to 70 years old.

In the last year, people in the city have donated more than 6,000 bags of clothes, books and other items, and have helped raise hundreds of thousands of pounds since opening in 1998.

Mrs Tildesley said: “We are delighted to have reached such a major milestone and are sincerely grateful to everyone in Salisbury who supports us.

“Thanks to their generosity, the charity has raised many hundreds of thousands of pounds to work with children who are challenged by poverty, abuse, disability and discrimination.

“We’ve got a fantastic team of volunteers so we wanted to arrange a small celebration to show our appreciation for their dedication and commitment.”
