Free swim and tennis sessions are a hit
THOUSANDS of young people in Wiltshire took part in free swimming and tennis sessions have during the school summer holidays.
Wiltshire Council continued its free swimming for young people aged up to 16 with more than 50,000 free sessions being taken up in July and August.
For the first time this year, the council also provided free access to tennis courts across the county. Tennis enthusiasts of all ages enjoyed the free sessions, with 361 court sessions being taken up.
Many young readers also took part in the annual summer reading challenge, with record numbers in Wiltshire taking the quest to read six books over the holidays.
By mid-August the number of children signed up to take part in this year’s Creepy House challenge was 8,789, an increase of 200 on last year’s figure.
An army of 250 volunteers aged 13 to over 60 also supported the challenge by listening to the children talk about the books they read for the challenge and giving them prizes along the way.
