Busy time for Queen Scarlett
2:00pm Friday 13th September 2013 in News
RINGWOOD’S new carnival queen has performed one of the first official duties of her royal year.
Scarlett Smith, 16, began a busy few weeks by visiting the offices of her sponsor, Ellis Jones Solicitors.
Scarlett and her attendants Paige I’anson and Taylor Button met managing partner Nigel Smith.
She said: “I’m normally on the Forest Forge float in the procession so it’s going to be strange, but very exciting, to be actually touring the floats as carnival queen.”
Final preparations are being made for this year’s carnival, which gets under way with a quiz at Trinity Church this Saturday. Carnival day is next Saturday, September 21.
Michael Lingam-Willgoss, vice-chairman of the carnival committee, said: “Ringwood Carnival is not only great fun but also raises thousands of pounds for charity.”
Carnival day includes an afternoon parade and an evening procession.
Free events on The Bickerley include a fun fair, trade stands, the ‘Village Green’ with craft, charity and community stalls, and a grand firework display evening finale.
The first Ringwood Carnival was held in 1929 with the event held every year since 1950.
Mr Smith said: “Ringwood Carnival is hugely popular and we’re very pleased to play our part in its continuing success.”
