Free early education
12:00pm Wednesday 18th September 2013 in News
PARENTS can now find out if their two-year-old qualifies for free early education at the click of a button.
Two-year-olds whose family receive certain benefits or have a household income below £16,190 could be entitled to free education through a local nursery, pre-school or childminder.
All three- and four-year-olds are currently entitled to 15 hours of early education per week, during term time, to help them prepare for school and this scheme has now been extended to include some two-year-olds.
Dorset County Council has introduced an online tool for families to find out if their child qualifies for the funding. Cllr Toni Coombs, Cabinet member for education, said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for parents to find out if they qualify for this scheme.
“By answering a few simple questions online, they can see if their child is eligible, apply for the funding and find suitable childcare.” Parents can check if their child is eligible for funding at www.dorsetforyou.com/agedtwo/apply.
The council’s Family Information Service can also tell you if you’re eligible for the funding and help you find registered childcare providers. Go to www.dorsetforyou.com/childcare, email email@example.com or call 01305 221066.
