European Day at Manor Fields
MANY tongues were wagging when children at a Salisbury primary school took part in a European Day of Languages.
All the youngsters at Manor Fields Primary School in Wilton Road joined up in mixed groups to learn about different cultures. They sang songs in their chosen language, tasted different foods and learned about the arts.
Language teacher Audrey Capon said the event was part of a Europe-wide initiative to encourage greater openness and understanding among nations.
Manor Fields, which teaches Spanish as a modern foreign language, had enjoyed a successful day, she added.
She said: “The children loved it. Whenever we have evaluations, the children say they remember these days most. It is also nice for them to mix with other classes, especially the younger children.”
During the day, classes adopted a country to explore from a list that included Spain, Greece, Denmark, Switzerland, Italy and Lithuania.
