A WOMAN from Porton who has been battling oesophageal cancer has launched a fundraising campaign to help others with the disease.

Jane Phillips, who was diagnosed 18 months ago, has started the Fundraising For Angels (Ward 17) campaign to raise money for Royal Bournemouth Hospital Ward 17, where patients with the condition are treated.

Mrs Phillips, 64, has already raised £1,100 at an event held at Salisbury Rugby Club.

And she has also organised a coffee morning in Porton on Friday, November 22, a Bouquet of Music evening at Glebe Hall on Friday, December 6 and a masked ball at Salisbury Guildhall in October next year.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their support, and the sponsors,” she said.

“So far it has been a huge success and I want to continue raising awareness for oesophageal cancer. At the moment there’s no trust which supports sufferers but in the future I’d like to set up a trust.”
