Wyvern starts Duke of Edinburgh's Award
WYVERN College has formerly launched the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme at the school.
New teacher Steve Smith has started the scheme at the school as part of its widening enrichment programme.
The award aims to inspire and support young people in their self-development, encouraging self-confidence and independence through a range of activities. To complete the first bronze award, students have to undertake voluntary work, physical activity, learn a new skill and plan, train and complete a two-day expedition.
Mr Smith, a qualified mountain leader and D of E assessor and leader, said: “Student feedback and interest has been extremely positive. I’m looking forward to seeing our students demonstrate their decision-making and team work skills in a more challenging outdoor context. I’m confident the award will become an integral part of our wide range of extra-curricular activities at Wyvern.”
