Success for Woodfalls Band
THE Woodfalls Band is celebrating its best ever result at the National Brass Band Championships.
The band came sixth against some strong competition at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Saturday, after performing Gregson’s Of Distant Memories. It was the band’s highest finish since 1978, when it was placed tenth after performing Checkmate by Sir Arthur Bliss.
Vice president Brian Easterbrook said: “At the announcement of sixth place a massive cheer rang out from band members and supporters.
"The celebrations commenced immediately and will continue for many days to come.
However, the serious business of preparing for the We Will Remember Them concert at Salisbury City Hall on November 3 has to be addressed, so the lights will be burning late into the night in Woodfalls.”
The band was formed in 1874 to accompany the hymn singing at Woodfalls Methodist Chapel and it has a successful history, having won numerous competitions across the country.
The band is seeking financial support after costs to get to London on Saturday ran into several thousand pounds. For details on how to donate, visit woodfallsband.com or call Mr Easterbrook on 01722 710074.
