Award for WILSAR team
VOLUNTEERS from a search and rescue team have been commended for their enthusiasm and commitment.
Wiltshire Police Chief Constable Pat Geenty showed his appreciation for the Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) team by awarding them the Chief Constable’s Certificate of Appreciation.
He said: “WILSAR have turned out on hundreds of occasions to help search for missing people. They have assisted on 36 occasions already during 2013, resulting in 20 missing people being found safe and well.
“The level of enthusiasm and commitment shown by members of WILSAR is outstanding, and this commitment is illustrated by the fact that five of the team’s members are being recognised for having delivered five years of service, and a further seven for undertaking more than ten years.”
The group has been operating for more than 13 years and received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2011.
Sly Jenkins from WILSAR said: “Our volunteers are on call to assist the police 24/7, 365 days a year, whatever the weather. We pay for all our own equipment and fuel and expect nothing in return, so we’re thrilled to be recognised like this. It’s a huge boost for the team.”
