Three animal deaths on Forest roads

IT was a bad week for accidents involving animals in the forest last week, with nine incidents including two hit and runs and three deaths.

Motorists are being urged to slow down and take more care in the dark winter mornings and evenings.

Last Tuesday a cow was injured at 7am in a hit and run at Verely near Picket Post.

On the Wednesday at 4.45pm two ponies were hit at Setthorns. One of the ponies was killed and its body was not found until two days later.

The same day a black cow was hit on the B3079 between Bramshaw and Landford at 6.15pm, but nothing was found, and a grey filly was injured at Setley on the B3055 at 7.30pm.

On Thursday at 4.40pm a bay mare was injured in Burley Road at Thorney Hill and had to be put down when it was found the next morning with a broken leg.

On Friday a chestnut filly was injured in a hit and run on Sway Road, Brockenhurst at 8.35am.

On Saturday a chestnut pony was hit at 5.15pm at Claypits on the B3078, but nothing was found, and at 10.15pm a grey filly was killed at Hilltop on the B3054.
