YOUNG footballers from Tisbury won a tournament in front of thousands of fans.

The five-a-side match at the County Ground, home of Swindon Town, was part of a tournament organised for 15 and 16 yearolds as part of a “Lets Kick Racism Out of Football campaign. Teams took part from all over Wiltshire and included St Joseph’s A and St Joseph’s B from Salisbury, Tisbury Sports Centre A and Salisbury City FC A.

A total of 18 teams, including more than 120 young people, took part. The two finalists - Tisbury Sports Centre and The Town from Trowbridge - contested at the Kick It Out Grand Final at half-time during Swindon Town’s fixture with Leyton Orient on November 23 in front of 8,000 fans.

The final score ended in a 2-0 victory to Tisbury Sports Centre.

Both teams were presented with trophies and medals by Wiltshire Council portfolio holder for leisure Jerry Kunkler and head of leisure Louise Cary.

Mr Kunkler said: “This initiative was a great opportunity for young people from Wiltshire to show their support for a national campaign while taking part in sport. The opportunity for the young players to play at a professional football ground was one not to be missed; a once in a lifetime experience.”
