AN elderly man from Ringwood died on Monday when his car was in collision with a tractor and trailer.

The 95-year-old died after his red Skoda Fabia collided with the tractor and trailer loaded with grass on the A30 near Launceston, Cornwall just before 5pm.

The tractor driver, 65, from near St Mabyn, was treated for minor injuries at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said the pensioner was heading towards Bodmin when the collision happened.

The road, near Altarnun, was closed for eight hours for investigations.

A man who lives near the scene said the tractor ended up in the westbound lane in which the car was travelling, while the trailer was overturned in the eastbound lane.

“I heard three awful thumps,” he said.
