BROWNIES in Laverstock took part in an evening thinking of others past and present, exchanging memories and celebrating the changing face of Brownies and Guides over the past 100 years.

Twenty-seven girls from the 1st Laverstock pack took part in the event, which opened with the youngsters demonstrating how meetings used to begin by skipping under a bridge of hands before an evening of traditional dance, games and old campfire songs, with Former brownies from the pack joining in the fun and sharing pictures of bygone days.

The evening was also a time of reflection for the girls, who on seeing the recent pictures of devastation caused by Typhoon Hiayan, took time to think of their fellow girl Scouts and their effected communities in the Philippines.

Decking out tables with a huge variety of homemade cakes saw the pack urge visitors to buy the tasty treats, with all money raised going to the relief effort.

Snowy Owl Pauline Giles said: “With 600,000 girl Scouts caught up in the disaster, the Brownies wanted to contribute what they could to help those affected, raising a total of £141, which will be sent to help ShelterBox’s support efforts.”
