A CHARITY gig is taking place in Salisbury next week in memory of young woman from Salisbury who died from cancer earlier this year.

Dani Haviland is organising the event to raise money for Ovarian Cancer Action. Big T & The Hobbits will be performing music by Kings of Leon, Jet, Stereophonics, The Vaccines, The Rolling Stones and Queen, at The Pheasant, in Salt Lane, on Monday (December 23).

Mrs Haviland’s best friend, Laura Bishop, died of ovarian cancer in March. She said: “This is really important to me because she was my best friend and it’s just such a tragic story. She was only 26 and it seems so unfair. I want to be able to help. “ The pair had been friends since the age of ten.

Mrs Haviland did Cancer Research UK’s Race for Live in Salisbury earlier this year as well as the Great South Run to raise money for Salisbury Hospice, and she is taking part in next year’s London Marathon.

She said: “I’m running about six times a week. It’s really, really tough and hard making the time for it, but I’m doing it for a good cause.”

Entry to the gig, from 8.30pm until late, is free and there will be a collection on the night for Ovarian Cancer Action.
