A WOMAN who was a much-loved and familiar face at Salisbury Racecourse died on December 7 after being taken ill at a racecourse function the previous evening.

Lin White, who had been company secretary and operations manager at the racecourse died at Salisbury District Hospital.

Jeremy Martin, clerk of the course and executive director said: “Lin was the most remarkable woman. She adored her job and had the most incredible energy. Nothing was too much trouble, and she loved being involved with everything.

“She was hugely liked and respected locally, and within racing.” Mrs White was caught up in the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami when on holiday in Sri Lanka with her daughter, and in the summer of 2012 was bitten by an adder in the New Forest. The latter incident made her particularly ill and extensive surgery on the affected leg was required.

Mr Martin added: “She had fully recovered from the snake bite, so for this to happen is just awful. “We are all deeply saddened by the sudden death of our colleague and friend. We, and her children, have been overwhelmed and touched by the number of messages”.

Mrs White is survived by her son David, 31, daughter Nicki, 30, and partner Richard.

Her funeral will be held at Salisbury Racecourse tomorrow.
