MINCE pies, ploughman’s lunches and plenty of good cheer have all added up to raising £1,100 for Home-Start South Wiltshire at a pop-up café in Stratford-sub-Castle.
Home-Start trustee Christine Pullen master-minded the event, held in the Reading Room, and it attracted widespread support from villagers.
She said: “This was an amazing total, thanks to the generosity and hard work of the people of the village.
“It was the sixth pop-up café to be held in 2013, with a number of local charities benefitting, including Riding for the Disabled and the Alzheimer’s Society.
“Its primary aim, however, has been to promote community spirit and get neighbours meeting and talking in convivial surroundings. This has been a resounding success and we hope to repeat it next year.
“The charitable donations have been a happy by-product of this initiative by a group of local people.”
Launched 14 years ago, Home-Start South Wiltshire helps parents build better lives for their children.
Its office is in Amesbury.
