Who was your childhood hero and why?

Brian O’Driscoll – I grew up watching Brian on TV, and a few times at Lansdowne Road, and he just seemed to do things that others couldn’t. He was also a great leader and role model.

What is the radio/television show you hate to miss?

Recently it has been Breaking Bad but I’ve just finished the final series so I’m looking for something new.

What is your favourite film?

Shawshank Redemption is absolutely timeless but I also really enjoyed the new Batman trilogy.

What is your pet hate?

As a team captain it has to be people who pull out of matches at the last minute.

If you could change one thing about the place where you live, what would it be?

I live in the market square so parking would be a massive bonus.

If you had a million pounds to give away, what would you do with the money?

I would use it all in the local area for various things, which would give people the opportunity to do things they couldn’t afford to do otherwise; from sports to studying.

Is there someone well-known you’ve met who really impressed you?

When I was at school I played football against Alec Stewart, the ex-England cricketer, and he was brilliant after the game, taking the time to talk to all the lads.

What would never leave home without?

I hate to say it but my iPhone.

What sports team do you support?

Hampshire in cricket and Manchester United in football. I don’t get to Old Trafford much but I’m often at the Ageas Bowl.

I buy the Journal most weeks but other than that I read most of my news online.

What was your first job?

My first job was straight out of Warwick University as a sales engineer at Armfield Ltd.

Three years later I am still there now – but as a senior sales manager.

If you could take over someone’s job for the day, whose would you pick?

I would like to do something in sport, but I would have to go for David Cameron’s job to find out what goes on in the Government.

What is your proudest moment?

A few to choose from, most revolving around sport, but it’s probably getting a 1st class honours (BSC) in engineering from Warwick University, which shows I’m not just a sportsman.

What one thing could change society for the better?

Make sure this is the last time we ever have a coalition government. It’s absolutely useless.

Do you have any children?

No, thank god.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

Hopefully I have a few decades to go but along the lines of Vixit usque ad summum (He lived life to the full), although I am sure someone will correct my Latin.
