THE Alzheimer’s Society in Salisbury is offering a free five-week creative art course for people with dementia, and their carers.

The course will include painting, pottery, collage and glass work and no previous experience is necessary.

It will meet five times in January and February and will be led by artist Sif Wolthers.

“Being diagnosed with dementia can be a daunting and bewildering experience, but staff and volunteers at Alzheimer’s Society enable people to take control of their lives and make sense of what is happening to them," said the society’s events co-ordinator Emma Brown.

In Wiltshire in 2012 it is estimated that the number of people with dementia will rise in 2021 to more than 9,000, from more than 6,700 (diagnosed and undiagnosed) in 2012.

Alzheimer’s Society in Salisbury runs a number of services, including Memory Café, Singing for the Brain and the Forget-me-not Club. For more information, please contact Ms Brown at Salisbury@alzheimers.org.uk or on 01722 326236 or go to alzheimers.org.uk/localinformation.
