POLICE have issued pictures of a man who they believe was caught on camera slashing car tyres in Amesbury and they want the public’s help to identify him.

In the past year 98 vehicles have been damaged as a result of vandalism, including mobility scooters, the community minibus and cars belonging to elderly disabled people or professionals who need their vehicles to get to work.

In most cases tyres were punctured with a sharp tool, and in one spree more than 30 vehicles were vandalised in a night.

Several residential areas of Amesbury have been targeted and in many cases all four car tyres were punctured.

The suspect is a man aged between 35 and 55 and is operating on his own.

Wiltshire Police say they are taking the incidents very seriously and inquires are ongoing.

Officers from Amesbury are working closely with the Salisbury Priority Crime team, CID colleagues and other departments. They are following a number of lines of inquiry and are carrying out increased patrols in the area.
