CHILDREN from all the schools in the Fordingbridge and Downton area pushed their stamina to the limits in an inter-school cross country event.

The Burgate School and Sixth Form Centre organised two running events for Hale, Breamore, Hyde, Western Downland, Downton, Coombe Bissett, Alderbury, Whiteparish and Morgans Vale and Woodfalls primary schools, which took place on it's school field over two afternoons.

Some 19 teams, comprising of 121 infant children, completed the course, with Lily Jones from Hale Primary School winning the Years 3 and 4 category for the girls group and Danny Allam from Downton finishing first in the boys group.

PE teacher Faye Ritchie said: "The standard was fantastic and it really impressed me that everyone finished what was a challenging course especially with the weather conditions being heavy going.

"We saw the Olympic and Paralympic values that we encourage in droves, those being courage, determination and excellence."
