A SALISBURY author has published about The Battle of Waterloo and the Duke of Wellington.

Russ Foster, writing as RE Foster, has merged military history and historical biography in his book Wellington and Waterloo - The Duke, The Battle and Posterity 1815-2015.

Foster graduated with a first in history from Southampton University in 1982, and having been awarded a major state studentship from the British Academy, he embarked on research for a doctoral thesis, including working on the Wellington MSS at Southampton.

He has been a head of history in independent schools for 20 years, while writing and publishing a number of major articles and books on the Napoleonic era.

Foster has spoken at three of the five international Wellington congresses held at Southampton, and in 2006 was elected a fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

His new book aims to restore the Duke of Wellington’s reputation as a commander and politician, proving he remains as important to history as the battle he won.

Foster’s book was published by The History Press on February 3.
