SALISBURY Hospice Charity is hoping a record number of walkers will join in the sixth annual Midnight Walk this May.

Registration for the ten-mile walk, to be held on Saturday, May 17, is now open.

Following feedback from walkers in previous years, the 2014 event has a new start time of 10.30pm. Walkers leave Five Rivers Leisure Centre and go on a circular route with the half-way point at the hospice.

At the finish line, back at Five Rivers, walkers will be able to enjoy a light breakfast and a cup of tea. There will also be prizes for the best team, individual and original fancy dress as well as for the person who raises the most money for the hospice.

Salisbury Hospice Charity needs to raise £1.5m every year to maintain the service, and the Midnight Walk, supported by the Journal, is its big fundraising event, raising more than £120,000 so far.

The hospice helps up to 1,000 people every year. Advice and support is provided to people in their own homes and through residential and outpatient services. It is the only provider of specialist palliative care in the local community and all the services it provides are free.

The walk is open to anyone aged 12 and over, although children must be accompanied by an adult. Individuals or teams are welcome.

Entry costs £15, which includes a Midnight Walk t-shirt and a commemorative medal.
